I always like to start with the big picture when I'm not familiar with something ‒ it helps me orient myself. In genealogy, a pedigree chart provides the big picture of a family because it traces an individual's lineage from child to parent back through time.
Pedigree charts have many uses. You can
- become familiar with ancestors' names,
- see relationships,
- trace a surname back through the generations, and
- understand where an ancestor fits in the family tree.
This page shows the first few generations of the Howell-Richards families combined.
- To view the individual lines in greater detail, click on the Howell-Ringo, Foltz-Scott, Richards-McCormick, or Hamilton-McVicker tabs under the blog header.
- The tabs correspond to the names in the last column on the chart below.
The pedigree chart road map:
Philip Howell is the Home Person in the Howell-Richards tree (see below). All relationships mentioned in the posts refer to the relationship between Philip and an ancestor.
Note: Due to space constraints, each of the charts in the other tabs starts with either Philip's father, Herbert, or his mother, Clara Joan Richards.
